The Courage to Leave

To my dear sister who found the courage to choose herself

I know the courage it takes to realize

He didn’t treat you with the respect and dignity

You deserve

Nor did he take care of your heart

With gentle care

I know the weight of understanding

What you thought it was

Didn’t exist

In the way that meant so much to you

To feel the disappointment that all your efforts

Were for naught

That the weight wasn’t meant to be carried by you alone

Even if you “didn’t mind”

Even if you were willing

That the way you were dismissed

Belittled

Shunned

Wasn’t your fault

To my sister who deserves to trust her instincts

To have your own opinions

And truth

You are allowed to disagree

To say yes

To not know

You are allowed to be afraid

To be bold

To dream

You can be whole and full

Fully in your body

Fully in your purpose

Fully loved

Already

As you are

You can start again

And know, my sister

You did not lose anything you needed

To go where you need to go

You have everything you need

You are not alone

What is pure?

What is lovely?

What is admirable?

You, my sister

It is you
